Understand one thing before we start, if you are not open to learn something new as a daily dose this is not for you.

You gotta have the intent, to learn something new every day. Its really not hard to learn if you want to.

Think about it from this point of view, work is part of life, and life is full of obstacles in every aspect of it. And it go through each obstacle its either to learn from your mistakes or learn a new way to go through such obstacle.

Sometimes we fall Down because there is something down there we’re supposed to find.

Its really not hard to learn if you want to…

You know what let me give you an example, I am a graduate of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, from Electrical & Electronic Engineering. My grades for any programming language was C, and to make it even worse it was not me doing the assignments and I did not answer much in the exam.

With that in mind, I am now QA Automation Engineer with skills in Java, & JavaScript language. Are you seeing what I am trying to reach?

Do you think it was easy?

Hell No! Its not easy to change from someone hating programming to someone’s interest is fully programming.

But maybe because my mindset is set. As soon as I graduated, one thing in my mind “I want to work ASAP” so it was not easy to fight for that. Because the only obstacle was only one “to learn something I don’t like”.

It is usually not easy to learn something you don’t like but its because of mindset. And please take note, if its something you don’t like since you are in high school or university please do not take it as your dislikes from that time, be open to change.

Talking about being open to change, you know why? Because only a small percentage of people works in their own lane or a job related to their degree.

Take note that this is stats from “The Washington Post” They are saying that only 27.3% of college or university graduates have a job related to their major.

Lets show you some calculations just to make it clearer for everyone, latest humanity’s calculations of the population is 7.753 Billion so now check below

100,000,000 x 27.3% = 27,300,000

So for every 1 billion people only 273,000,000 finds a job related to their degree. Please take note that this approximation & calculation is not fully accurate because we are speculating that all 1 billion are people who entered University and graduated, its only an approximation.

So you to be open to change…

You need to have the thought of being “elastic person”, being an elastic person which means you accept change and also like to add new things to your skillset.

Be observing constantly. Stay open minded. Be eager to learn and improve. – John Wooden

To be able to achieve ultimate success is to have the mentality of continuous success means continuous learning.

There is also something else, open to learning new things means you will be like a software, there will always be new updates on your skillset, which means even your life now is a better version than the previous one.

Accepting new things to achieve your goals is only one side of the coin, the other side of the coin, is that you will be acknowledged with multi-disciplinary knowledge.

As a CEO, the more knowledge you have the better way you can understand how your business works from A to Z, and that kind of CEO is admired by all his employees.

As a Employee, the more knowledge you have the more options you have of job offers, because the recruiters are looking for those with wide range of knowledge.

As you can see, learning new things and open to that, the advantage of it is all yours not for anyone else.

Be open to learning new lessons, even if they contradict the lessons you learned yesterday. – Ellen DeGeneres

You to put something in mind, whatever your interest and whatever your age, learning something new is not only fun, it can also be good for you.

Because learning new things have its benefits for you like:

  1. Improving your brain function

Research shows there are several ways to improve the health of your brain and learning something new is one of them. ‘Mental sweat’ helps your brain build new cells and strengthen connections between the cells. When you learn something new you are exercising your brain, which can help improve cognitive functions such as concentration, attention to detail, memory recall and problem solving, and also reduce the chance of developing dementia.

2. Meeting new people

Taking up a new hobby or sport or going to a class to learn something new is a great way to meet new people. Not only will you learn something, but you’ll also spend time with other people who have a similar interest and potentially make new friends.

3. Becoming involved in your community

Depending on what you learn, you may develop a sense of feeling more connected to your community. Coming together with other locals for a common purpose will help give you a sense of community and belonging and may benefit the place you live in.

4. Feeling good about your new skill

There is nothing more satisfying than a sense of achievement. Setting yourself a goal to learn something new, then achieving it, is super rewarding and gives you a sense of accomplishment.

5. Having fun

While learning something new may be challenging, it can also be heaps of fun. Most people won’t great at something they haven’t tried before when they first start, but it can be really enjoyable to be pushed out of your comfort zone when you try something new

Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open mind. – Malcom S. Forbes

Ending this blog with willingness to learn is a key behaviour that helps us get on in life, whether personally or professionally. Simply put, it’s being open to, or seeking out new experiences, skills and information that improve our abilities and enjoyment.

I believe in always being open to learning more through exploration of everything available and following one’s sense of curiosity, creativity, and playfullness. – Jay Woodman
